A misalignment of the atlas can affect proprioception, causing dizziness and vertigo.
Vertigo is a condition where a person feels as if they or the items around them are shifting when they are not. It frequently feels like a spinning or tilting movement. This may be linked with nausea, vomiting, sweating, or difficulties walking. It is typically worse when the head is moved.
The malrotation of the atlas often causes inflammation and contraction of the muscles that govern the joints of the head. This translates into the stiffness of muscles and the joints, causing pressure on certain cervical blood supply pathways.
Vertigo is caused by problems with the inner ear or vestibular system.
If the dizziness or vertigo is related to ear issues, the atlas out of position can affect the Eustachian tubes which are supposed to drain excess fluid away from the ears. Excess fluid can lead to vertigo, dizziness, hearing problems, and ringing in the ears (tinnitus).
People with peripheral vertigo typically present with mild to moderate imbalance, nausea, vomiting, hearing loss, tinnitus, fullness, and pain in the ear.
The faulty position of the atlas can also cause changes in the soft tissue which can cause a lesion to form on the eustachian tube that leads to inhibited and decreased ear function. This can lead to excess drainage and can cause conditions such as Meniere’s Disease that includes severe dizziness, tinnitus, and feelings of pressure and pain in your ears.
Vertigo that arises from injury to the balance centers of the central nervous system (CNS)
Compressed vertebral artery:
Another cause of dizziness or vertigo can be from compression of the vertebral artery from the atlas out of position. This can cause decrease oxygenated blood flow to the brain which can also cause dizziness, vertigo, loss of coordination, confusion, fainting, and visual disturbances.
Dizziness, vertigo, and balance problems may arise if the suboccipital muscles become constantly tense, weak, or imbalanced to the degree that they send fuzzy or inaccurate information to the brain about balance and direction or where the body is in space (called proprioceptive feedback).
Apart from the balance and vertigo problems, if the brain is reacting in a chaotic fashion, a host of other issues such as eye movement disorders, head tilt, difficulty reading, or difficulty to focus (ADD) might also occur.
Vertigo Relief with AtlasPROfilax®
AtlasPROfilax can Reset the Suboccipital Muscles with a SAFE, Three Minute Treatment.
Vertigo Relief Effectiveness, Improvements, and Limitations:
AtlasPROfilax® usually has a high or very high incidence in all cases of vertigo that are not due to neurological problems caused, for example, by disorders or episodes of dizziness or vertigo related to hypoglycemia, diabetes or problems of the ear.
