Sciatica is a painful condition described by pain going down the leg from the lower back. This pain may go down the outside, back, or front of the leg. Onset is often sudden, following activities like heavy lifting. Although gradual onset may also occur. The pain is typically described as a shooting pain. Most often, symptoms are only on one side of the body, although on occasion there is pain on both sides. Every so often the lower back pain is also combined with the shooting pains in the legs. Weakness or numbness may ensue in several parts of the affected leg and foot.
